About Us

CYLC was first recognised as the Native Title Representative Body for the Cooktown region by the Commonwealth Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs in 1993.

Since that time, the organisation has undergone numerous reviews and obtained re-recognition, currently holding this until 30 June 2017. The further period, ensures Aboriginal people of Cape York have a voice representing them in all matters relating to land and sea on their traditional lands.

It is CYLC’s vision to be recognised as a key part of a network of specialist community-based organisations representing the interests of the Aboriginal peoples of Cape York, focusing on achieving timely and meaningful outcomes for constituents on land and Native Title matters within the region.
